Norwegian Cruise Lines
Friday, February 20th, 2009Norwegian Cruise Lines: the Best Cruise in Operation
In the fall of the year 1966, two gentlemen from Florida named Knad Kloster and Ted Arison formed a company named Norwegian Caribbean Line. The aim behind this company was to provide entirely new travel experience to people who want to spend their vacations in a different way. After the Norwegian Cruise Lines was established, Ted Arison, one of the partners left the company. Hence Mr. Kloster became the only owner of Norwegian Cruise Lines. His first decision was to change the name of the cruise and he named it Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). City of Miami became the head quarter of Norwegian Cruise Lines. Later Star Cruises and Apollo Management became Norwegian Cruise Lines new owner.
Mr. Kloster wanted Norwegian Cruise Lines to be different from other cruise companies. So he came up with a perception called “Freestyle Cruising Concept”. Norwegian Cruise Lines became the first of its kind where there is no set times for meals and no formal dress codes for the cruise staffs. This was much informal and cozy and obviously different from other cruises. He wanted the guests of Norwegian Cruise Lines to feel free which will enhance the rapport between the travelers and the company. It was an instant hit among the cruise travelers.
To improve the reputation of the company, Mr. Kloster came up with many new ideas. Norwegian Cruise Lines was the first company to provide island cruise and also the facility to carry automobiles in the cruises. Casinos, which were rare those days, were considered added attraction of Norwegian Cruise Lines. So with all these groundbreaking features, it attracted lot of people and is often called the pioneer of the cruise industry as all the other cruises started following them after a while.
In the year 1979 Norwegian Cruise Lines made headlines by collaborating with France, a leading cruise liner which renamed it Norway. They changed the whole liner and gave it a totally new look. The cost of $100 million was paid by Norwegian Cruise Lines to buy the new one but the price was worth it because Norway was the largest cruise ship at that time and was the biggest attraction to the travelers. Sadly this venture ended in a tragedy in 2003 when there was a blast in the boiler of Norwegian Cruise Lines and it had no option but to stop the ship from any further journey.
In the following year, Norwegian Cruise Lines purchased two famous US cruise liners named SS United States and SS Independence. These two cruise liners started operating under Norwegian Cruise Lines but unfortunately the venture did not survive long enough. Currently Norwegian Cruise Lines is operating with its US based cruise liners.
Though Norwegian Cruise Lines has restricted themselves within US, it continues to provide great services like before and people still love Norwegian Cruise Lines for its glorious history no matter which liner cruise princess or royal cruise they are operating.
